The concept of tunable spectrum comes with the popularization of Solid-state Lighting (SSL), and LED is a typical example. It is impossible to imagine how to make a light with tunable colors by conventional light sources like incandescent, tungsten, halogen, fluorescent, or High Intensity Discharge (HID), thanks to the digital features of LED, the tunability becomes true.
Gradually a single CCT / color LED does not meet the demand of complicated or innovative applications any longer and dynamic CCT / color changing is desired. YUJILEDS focuses on providing comprehensive solutions for specific applications. Besides high CRI LED lighting, monochromatic spectrum, wider CCT options and other integrations are all involved into the solution, aiming to meet different requirements with all feasibilities.
To realize tunability, the light source is at least with two different spectra for integration, it could be white light with different correlated color temperatures (CCT), colored semiconductor LED, colored phosphor converted LED or the combination of all of them.
As a matter of fact, the theory of spectrum tuning is as simple as adding law. In the perspective of discrete analysis, each wavelength corresponds to a specific intensity, when combining different spectra in the tuning system, in the spectral power distribution, add the specific intensity at each wavelength together then integrate all wavelengths in continuous way, the final spectrum is the tuned spectrum. This law applies to any tunable spectrum and it makes possible to simulate a spectrum before an actual try.
Spectrum is the fingerprint of a light, once the spectrum is tuned, then the light is identified uniquely, the parameters that are well known as chromaticity coordinate, correlated color temperature, color rendering index, TM-30-18, radiant power, luminous flux, dominant or peak wavelength are all calculated from the spectrum, understanding the theory of tuning a spectrum makes the design work easier.
A basic constituent for high CRI tunable lighting is mixing more than two high CRI and different white light spectra. With the relatively full spectrum base, any tuned spectrum will maintain the color rendition at all correlated color temperatures.
VTC series tunable LED solution brings the feasibility to realize uniform spectra by avoiding any strong peaks within the spectrum. Maximumly simulating blackbody radiator spectrum makes the color rendition remarkable at all CCTs.
BC series tunable LED solution can achieve any feasible CCTs and keep high CRI up to 98 simultaneously. BC series solution also offers a balance between color quality and luminous efficiency,
Monochromatic tunable spectrum is mainly for creating non-white light, aiming to reach specific chromaticity coordinate or formulate specific spectra. At YUJI, more possibilities are achievable.
Colored semiconductor LED is always with relatively narrow spectrum which results in a pure color. With colored semiconductor of red, green and blue LED, it is possible to get a full color gamut – a color triangle on CIE diagram. Theoretically any color points can be achieved in the triangle with suitable tuning recipes. In addition, the consistency of the peak / dominant wavelength for each color is important for a precise gamut.
Alternatively, phosphor converted LED is also an option for monochromatic tunable spectrum. Phosphor converted LED brings different color effect and the feature of broader spectrum enhances the color rendition ability by different combinations.
The color saturation and rendition are always contradictory, the narrower the spectrum, the purer of the color is, and the color rendition will be worse because the spectrum does not cover much visible wavelength, similarly, a full spectrum offers good color rendition, but it can never achieve saturated monochrome.
The ideal solution is to obtain monochromatic color with high CRI white light simultaneously, this technology and product allow designers to create any color and white light with full feasibilities.
